CERT Training to begin in January

The Manalapan Medical Reserve Corps-Community Emergency Response Team (MRC-CERT) is offering a 13 week FEMA CERT training course beginning January 10, 2024.  The sessions will be held in Manalapan in the evenings.  The training is free and prepares participants to respond to emergencies and to work within the emergency management structure.  This program is attractive to people that wish to help their community in times of need.  We welcome people with or without any medical background. Teens are also welcome to attend.

Manalapan MRC-CERT team currently consists of over 350 volunteer members. The team meets frequently throughout the year for refresher training and drills, and also supports municipal sponsored events such as Manalapan Day and National Night Out.  The team has been activated to help staff shelters, ice distribution and cell phone charging stations and has assisted in missing person search and rescues.  The team was a vital part of the COVID vaccination clinics.

The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical (emergency first aid). Participants in the course will also be trained and certified in CPR.
