The Manalapan Township Construction Department is responsible for the enforcement of the building codes as set forth in the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.
Any building, electrical and plumbing work shall comply with the IRC 2021 NJ Edition, the IBC 2021 NJ Edition, the NEC 2020 (the National Electrical Code) and the National Standard Plumbing 2021.
When undertaking work on your home, homeowners should be aware that home improvement contractors must be registered with the Division of Consumer Affairs. Homeowners who enter into contracts should be aware and look for the registration numbers on all documents, advertisements and vehicles. Homeowners may check the New Jersey consumer Affairs website at www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/ for frequently asked questions and contractor information.
Prior to performing any work on your home, a permit application packet can be obtained at the Construction Office or by clicking here. Paperwork may vary according to the type of work being performed. Applications must be filled out completely. Click on each individual subcode (Building, Electric, Plumbing and Fire) for additional information. All prior approvals from the Zoning Officer must be obtained when applicable prior to submitting applications to the Construction Office. Permits are required for most home improvement projects, whether inside or outside the home.
The Construction Office operates between the hours 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Calls to schedule inspections are accepted up until 3:00 pm and are scheduled according to availability. Inspections are performed daily, Monday through Friday. Please be assured that every effort will be made to accommodate residents, as well as contractors, when scheduling. However, due to the heavy volume of inspections scheduled, inspectors may not be able to give times.
